Cap de la Nau, Region of Valencia

My seed project

My professional goal is to assist European regions advance towards integrated and balanced economic, social, environmental and cultural development, reducing the widening regional disparities. The European Structural and Investment Funds, together with other EU instruments (Erasmus+, LIFE, H2020, COSME, etc.) offer the opportunity to formulate and implement actions towards this objective. According to the European Commission, "the EU, its regions and states, effective regional development strategies shall encourage":

GDP disparities. Grounding of Cohesion Policy 2014-2020
a)   A fair, equitable, effective yet diverse spatial distribution of social and economic activities, capable of closing the opporunity gap for employment and entrepreneurship among citizens within a region, and between different EU regions.

b)   The valorisation of under-utilised regional assets in order to reverse the exacerbating rural and industrial decline, urban segregation and regional disparities on the diffusion of innovation and economic dynamism.

c)    An economic growth and competitiveness strategy based on unlimited inputs such as knowledge, entrepreneurship or innovation capacities, that will deliver jobs and social cohesion while engaging with environmental sustainability.

d)    The amelioration of the quality of the environment, tackling problems such as traffic congestion, landscape degradation, noise, air and water pollution.

e)     A coordinated cross-sectoral and multi-level governance that learns from internal and external policy lessons, while encouraging the empowerment of citizens and the transparent participation of economic actors in the definition and orientation of their own development strategy.

About me

I was born in València 28 years ago, where I graduated in “Public Management and Political Science” by the Universitat de València. I completed these studies with two exchange scholarships at SciencesPo Lyon and at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, acquiring extensive knowledge and scientific-technical skills across the fields of Political Science, Economy, Law, Sociology, Geography, History and Philosophy, as well as valuable tools for undertaking cross-sector integrated analysis among these domains.

In an attempt to narrow down the application of these multi-disciplinary competencies, I further specialised on European Regional Economic Development through the master programme PLANET Europe, jointly taught at two leading universities in the field in the Netherlands and Sweden. This experience enabled me to gain knowledge on the theoretical tools for the design of strategies towards regional economic development, sustainability and social inclusion. The unique European comparative approach of this programme extensively enriched our practical understanding of how innovation, regional disparities or Cohesion Policy take place in different EU regions, as well as what impact do EU policies and programmes have in regional contexts.

I enjoyed a 6-month internship at the Med Programme, an instrument of the EU Regional Policy. Here I extended my creativity with new project design ideas in the fields of innovation and environmental sustainability. This has been possible thanks to the analysis, capitalisation and communication of the Med Programme 2007-2013 projects' results on these fields. I undertook a research for my master thesis "Competitive global ports for regional economic development: The Port of Valencia". I also prepared the application for the LIFE 2014 Programme of the BEAA project idea, linked to rural development, environmental sustainability and awareness raising. I worked at the European Commission auditing the European Social Fund at the DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion as a trainee. I was the president of the Stagiaires Subcommittee on Territorial Development. Currently, I brought these experiences down to the Region of Valencia, where I design and implement territorial development projects at Fundación Equipo Humano. Here, I bring internal capacities on training methods, employment, and innovation together with other EU partners in order to develop projects capable of responding to local challenges.

I can fluently speak English, French, Spanish and Catalan/Valencian, and I also have a good level of Portuguese. I have also worked in Spain, Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and France in different fields including local development (ADLYPSE), transparency (Govern Obert), interculturalism, citizen participation (Centre for Global Education), or sexual discrimination (Col·lectiu Lambda).
